Matamata Trackwork. Tuesday 31-Aug-10 Montjee and Seaflyte prepared for the main flat event at Ellerslie on Saturday with sound work at Matamata this morning. Montjee (K Jones) did his work on the course proper, which was very heavy 15m out, where he strode over 1200m in 1:26.7, with the last 1000m in 1:10.9 and 600m in 41.4. He was kept up to his work and rounded it off in good style. Seaflyte (Coleman) worked on the all-weather track, returning 1:20.2 for 1200m, 1:05.3 for the last 1000m and 38 for his final 600m. He has trained on well from his impressive win at Te Rapa three weeks ago. One Nite Stand (Ismail) and Extra Explosive (Turner) were paired in sound work over 1000m in 1:08.9, the last 600m in 40.4. One Nite Stand is an entry for Ellerslie on Saturday, while Extra Explosive will head to Wanganui for the three-year-old filly feature, the Trudy Thomson Memorial. She has not raced since winning the Castletown Stakes at Foxton in early June but is in forward condition. Dadzadreamer (S Collett) prepared for Ellerslie when partnering Tackytu (Grylls) over 1200m in 1:28.3, 1000m in 1:13.4 and 600m in 43.7. Back on the all-weather track, Panthera (J McDonald), a possible Wanganui runner, and Art Beat (Coleman) were paired in smart work over 1000m in 1:03.8 and 600m in 36.7. Hoss (Tobler) and a Stravinsky gelding (Arumugam) cut out 1000m in a slick 1:02.2, with the last 600m taking 37.8. Kool Kitty (R Jones) was more sedate over the same ground in 1:09.2 and 39.8, while Sentinel (Gillies) took 1:09.4 and 39.6. Sacramento (P McKay) and Santorielli (Wratten) were timed from the 600m in 37.2, and Groover (Gillies) clocked 38.6. On the sand, which was good, Hinemoa (Kasim) and Shahbab (Grylls) looked ready for their immediate engagements when cutting out 1200m in 1:21.2, 1000m in 1:05 and 600m in a smart 36.8. Shahbab is set to run at Ellerslie, while her stablemate may go to Wanganui. I Robot (Kasim) and Antonia Bella (Grylls) turned in a sound trial for Ellerslie with 1000m in 1:07.2 and 600m in 38.2. Vincent Mangano (P McKay) and Grand Russo (Grylls) advanced their preparations with 1000m in 1:05.4 and 600m in 37, while Millvstroem (Ng) ran the same trip in 1:08.6 and 39.5. Over ground Sworn To Secrecy (O’Sullivan) took 1:28.2 for 1200m in 42, and Mon Visage (Brown) 1:28.8 and 43.2. Crown Of Thorns (Grylls) was well contained over 1000m in 1:10.2 and 600m in 39.5. Benedict (Coleman) was allowed to stretch out over 800m in 59.6 and 600m in 44.2, while Captain Cruising (Coleman) ran his last 60m in 38.8 and Gallant (K Jones) 43.4. Matamata Trackwork. Thursday 26-Aug-10 Megan’s Tough Love drew attention to her Hastings prospects when she worked in dashing style at Matamata this morning. Galloping on a loose sand after heavy overnight rain, Megan’s Tough Love (Ng) had pace on throughout 1200m in 1:18, with the last 1000m in 1:03.6 and the final 600m in a smart 36.2. The Graham Richardson-trained mare has had two starts since being imported from the United States and looked an improver with a fourth placing at her most recent outing. She runs in the R80 1600 at Hastings. There was minimal fast work during the session, with others timed on the sand including Tauranga candidate Coolross, who trainer Karyn McQuade restricted to 1000m in 1:15.2 for 1000m and 43 for the final 600m. Schofield (Brosnan) covered 1200m in 1:19.2, 1000m in 1:04.6 and 600m in 37.7 and Dadzadreamer (Wilson) ran the same distance in 1:25.6, 1:11.5 and 43.2. On the course proper, which was heavy 15m out for right-handed work, Mudgway Partsworld Stakes entrant Miss Maren (K Jones) was well held over 1200m in 1:28.6 and 600m in 44. She looks very well for the big Hastings race. Hastings three-year-old sprint candidate Ying Yang Master (Grylls) began quietly and was timed over his last 600m in 41.8, while race rival Gospel (Coleman) was partnered by Elusive Lady (Grylls) over 1200m in 1:28.8 and 600m in 43.2. On the all-weather track Spare A Fortune (Johansen) was keen to go faster in his work as he cut out 1000m in 1:11.2 and 600m in 40.8. Trainer Gary Hennessy opted for the Rating 94 1400 at Hastings rather than the Mudgway Stakes. Hoss (Tobler) and an Ekraar gelding (Boyack) worked soundly over 1000m in 1:08.2 and 600m in 38.8, while Lisa Anne (Sliz) clocked 1:10.6 and 40.5, and Tackytu (Barlow) took 1:11.4 and 42.4. Love The Limelight (Russell) and Tafaool (D Turner) went at an even rate over 120m in 1:23.2 and 600m in 42. Matamata Trackwork. Tuesday 24-Aug-10 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes candidates Pennacchio, Miss Maren, Veloce Bella and Spare A Fortune all appeared to work well at Matamata this morning during a training session that was unfortunately spoilt by fog. Pennacchio (R Jones) and My Keepsake (Turner) were first to work on a slow course proper, where work took place right-handed 20m out. My Keepsake worked over 1600m and picked up Pennacchio over the last 1200m, with the latter working particularly well at the end of the gallop. Pennacchio will be ridden by Hayden Tinsley in Saturday’s weight-for-age feature, while My Keepsake, a scratching at Ellerslie last Saturday due to the heavy ground, will kick off her season in the open 1600m event at Hastings. Miss Maren and Veloce Bella had their respective Mudgway Stakes riders Mark Du Plessis and Craig Grylls on board when they cut out a soundly run 1200m. Melbourne returnee Miss Maren will be an interesting runner, but as Du Plessis observed after this morning’s work, her prospects rely on a track no worse than slow. Spare A Fortune (S Collett), who needs further withdrawals to gain a Mudgway start, led Capone (Wenn) by several lengths at the end of what looked like smart work. Atom Cat (Ng) and Megan’s Tough Love (Wilson) worked as the fog began to lift, enabling the timing of 1200m in 1:19.4, while Show Up (Du Plessis) was timed over the same ground in 1:21.8. Gospel (Grylls) and Elusive Lady (Moody) worked well over a round but could not be timed. Early session work that was able to be timed on a good sand included St Germaine (Leveque), who cut out the last 1000m of her work in 1:03.2 and 600m in 36.5. After racing below expectations in the Foxbridge Plate it was decided to bypass the Mudgway Stakes, but the second leg of the Hawke’s Bay treble, the Windsor Park Stakes, will be on St Germaine’s agenda provided she runs well at Ellerslie on Saturday week. Keep Eve (Grylls) turned in a sound trial for Tauranga on the weekend when she worked over 1000m in 1:07 and 600m in 39. She looks well following a short break from racing. Over the same ground Big Grump Gray (Gartner) and Randy Andy (Ng) returned 1:05.3 and 39, while He’s Under The Gun (Grylls) maintained a solid rate over 1200m in 1:18.6 and 600m in 38.2. Needastar (Ng) and a Keeper gelding (Gartner) left 1000m behind in 1:04, with no sectional split possible, while Mayhem Magic (Melton) and Marcus Aurelius (Anderson) took 1:10.4, She’s A Cougar (Coleman) 1:13.2 and Make A Wish (Mo) 1:15.6. Insightful (Dowling) was timed over 1200m in 1:24.2 and 1000m in 1:09, while Que Sera (Turner) was kept to 1:14.8 and 44.2 over 1000m and stablemate Irish Jewel (Calder) took 1:15.8 and 45.3. Princess Emmy (Leveque) tuned up over 800m in 50.5, So Royal (Du Plessis) was timed over her last 600m in 38.7 and Millvstroem (Joseph) and a Storming Home filly (Wells) covered 800m in 52.8 and 600m in 39.2. Matamata Trackwork. Thursday 19-Aug-10 Heavy fog prevented the timing of nearly all gallops at Matamata this morning, but of those that could be timed, Coolross looked the part for his Ellerslie weekend engagement. Ridden by his trainer Karyn McQuade on a firm sand, Coolross worked off steadily to cover 1200m in 1:27.8, with the last 1000m in 1:11.6. No other sectional timing was possible, but he emerged from the fog travelling strongly over the final stages of his gallop. My Keepsake (Coleman), a rival for Coolross in the Meredith Connell 1600 at Ellerslie, appeared to enjoy her work on the extreme outside of a heavy course proper. She could be timed only over 1200m in 1:26.6 and 1000m in 1:09.8. The Queensland Oaks winner will not be favoured by the expected heavy track but her class still gives her some prospects. Stablemate Lamington Vegas (Mo) prepared for Ellerslie with 1000m in 1:12.4, while Pennacchio (Turner) continued her Mudgway Stakes build-up with a well held 1000m in 1:18.6. Although no times were possible, weekend candidates Just Once, I Robot and Shahbab all appeared to travel up well in their final gallops on the course proper. On the sand Deep Forest (Moody) prepared for New Plymouth with striding work over 1000m in 1:15.4, while Elusive Lady (O Richardson) did sound work over the same distance in 1:06.9. Matamata Trackwork. Tuesday 17-Aug-10 My Keepsake and Lamington Vegas prepared for Ellerslie on the weekend with sound work at Matamata this morning. Galloping 18m out on a heavy course proper, My Keepsake (Coleman) and Lamington Vegas (O’Sullivan) strode over the last 1000m of their work in 1:09.9, with the final 600m in 41. Lamington Vegas looked more comfortable in the very wet conditions. Queensland Oaks winner My Keepsake has come to hand well for Andrew Scott and will begin her spring campaign in the open 1600 at Ellerslie on Saturday. All going well, her major targets will be the Spring Classic at Hastings in early October, followed by the Caulfield Cup. Lamington Vegas, who missed a start in the Foxbridge Plate, will run in R80 company at Ellerslie. He’s Got Music (Grylls) turned in an impressive trial for Te Aroha on Friday when he led Shahbab (Moody) at the end of 1200m in 1:27.2, 1000m in 1:11 and 600m in 41.2. Tenko (R Jones), a possible runner at Te Aroha, worked boldly over 1200m in 1:25.6, with the last 1000m in 1:09.2 and 600m in 40.2. She is a recent addition to the John Sargent stable. Outlaw Queen (Leveque), another now with Sargent, covered 1000m in 1:10.2 and 600m in 40.7. She is scheduled to head south to her trainer’s new Riccarton satellite stable. I Robot (Grylls) prepared for Saturday’s Interprovincial Championship at New Plymouth with 1200m in 1:31.4, 1000m in 1:15 and 600m in 43.8. He was to have worked with Deep Forest, but his stablemate dropped her jockey at the start of the gallop and I Robot had to make do with Deep Forest running riderless alongside. Deep Forest appeared to come to no harm. Spare A Fortune (Rusof), who runs next at Hastings on Saturday week, strolled through the early stages of his work to record 1:15.4 for 1000m and quickened up readily for a final 600m in 40.4. On the slushy sand Coolross (K McQuade) was one of few horses after time when cutting out 1200m in 1:19.8, 1000m in 1:05.6 and 600m in 37.2. He has trained on well form his last start third at Pukekohe and will run in the open 1600 at Ellerslie. Hinemoa (Kasim) did sound work over 1200m in 1:23.8, with the final 600m in 39.4, while Lovedale (Tait) reeled off 800m in 49.8 and 600m in 37. Sworn To Secrecy (Calder) was restricted to 1:14.9 for 1000m and 44.6 for the final 600m. She’s A Cougar (O’Sullivan) did similar work to record 1:16.4 and 44.8. On the all-weather track He’s Under The Gun (Grylls) worked boldly over 1000m in 1:08.4 and 600m in 38. Matamata Trackwork. Thursday 12-Aug-10 Solidarity completed his Te Rapa preparation with sound work at Matamata this morning. Galloping on a good sand with regular rider Craig Grylls in the saddle, Solidarity strode over the last 1200m of his work in 1:20.4, with the last 1000m in 1:05 and 600m in 40.2. The grey is a dual acceptor on the weekend, with connections swaying towards the R80 2000 metre event in preference to the open stayers’ event. He has trained on well from his bold sixth in the Taumarunui Cup and the side-winkers he has been wearing will be replaced by blinkers. Te Rapa open stayers’ candidate Montjee (K Jones) also did his final serious work on the sand, where he began steadily to cover 1200m in 1:23.2 and 1000m in 1:08, quickening from the 600m in 38.4. He has also trained on well from the Taumarunui Cup but a weekend start depends on forecast rain arriving. Foxbridge Plate candidates Miss Raggedy Ann and Lamington Vegas did their final work on the course proper, which was heavy 18m out. Miss Raggedy Ann (O’Sullivan) was well contained over 1000m in 1:13.2 and 600m in 42, while Lamington Vegas (Mo) followed in 1:13.6 and 41.8. Back on the sand, One Swanstonstreet (Mo) rounded off her weekend preparation when partnering Mr Trim (O’Sullivan) over 1200m in 1:23.4, 1000m in 1:08.2 and 600m in 38.5. Over the same ground Kirra Surf (Gartner) returned 1:19.2, 1:06.8 and 39.3, The Lionhearted (R Jones) 1:21.2, 1:06.4 and 39, Hinemoa (Kasim) 1:18.8, 1:05 and 39.2, and Merrymaker (Grylls) 1:19.8, 1:05.8 and 38.5. Insightful (Dowling) was timed over the last 1000m of her work in 1:08.6 and 600m in 38.3. The promising stayer appears to be coming to hand well. Others timed over 1000m included Deep Forest (Grylls), who returned 1:10.9 and 40.6, Stopper (Wilson) 1:12.2 and 42.3, and Dire Streets (Ng) 1:11.4 and 41.2. Make A Wish (Mo) and Sworn To Secrecy (O’Sullivan) covered 1200m in 1:21.6 and 600m in 39.6, while Big Grump Gray (Joseph) took 1:21.4 and 39 and Hanna Montana (Turner) 1:27.6 and 40.4. | ||
